I went to visit Mounds earlier this week and we discussed the next leg of my journey. Surgery will be on July 11 (Happy Birthday Katie S!). Mounds will be doing three separate surgeries at that time, so my chest will be a very busy place. The main surgery will be scraping off & scooping out muscle and tissue trying to find those stinkin rotten cancer cells. Next will be installing some faux tissue stuff. I think he called it AlloDerm. After that he will be relocating fat (of course he had to go an point out the fat again!) from an area just below my arm pit and use that to attempt to fill a big pit I have from the first surgery. He was talking about making a tunnel and pulling the fatty stuff through so it ends up in the pit. I have just been imaging a fat river waterfalling into the crater on my chest. That makes me giggle.
Recovery might be a little tough but it will be worth it if I end up cancer free. Fortunately, the dogs have been practicing sleeping on my lap. A lot. They will be good and ready to be warm compresses when the time comes.
After I recover from all of that I will start radiation. I was hoping to avoid it but apparently with cancer, all roads lead to radiation. Yippee. That treatment is every day – 5 days a week. I think the doctors were talking 5 weeks of that. I will know more when I go in for another consult.
Enough about stupid cancer. Time to talk about something fun! My granddaughter is coming out for a visit next week. Since she is a baby and can’t travel alone my son and his wife will be joining her again on this trip. I am so excited to see her again.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Wow Gen, that’s quite a game plan! As much as there’s a lot of technical, serious stuff that’s going to be going on with that surgery, I had to chuckle. Why? Dr. Mounds can finally be happy about the fat he has made comments about because now it’s your friend as it’ll be removed from where you may not want it and “recycled” to good use at a nearby “address”. Win, win! Sorry you couldn’t avoid the radiation but if it’s going to be a good team player, so be it. Hooray for Gwen’s trip and that her parents will escort her. I had a chuckle about that too because I pictured that cute little thing waiting at the mailbox with a wee suitcase waiting to be picked up. 🙂 This will indeed be a fabulous visit!!! We’ll all gather in your corner to root you on through this next phase.
Love and hugs!
I have some fat to donate! I have been saving it up for you!! I don’t know about you, but I always feel better when there’s a plan in place, even if the plan is a challenging one. Every step is one step closer to beating cancer into submission. I’m so glad your granddaughter and her entourage are coming for a visit. Nothing like a sweet baby to fill you full of good energy. As always, I am thinking of you. Go Team Gen!!!
Yay, glad baby Gwen is coming next week, and bringing her folks! You’re a trooper, Sista. Keep up the good fight. ❤
Ditto to what they said. I am a woman of few words (I’ll bet that made you giggle too 🙂 )
Sending love and hugs…….Judy
Hahaha Judy. From you I expect a short response.
Where’s the like button 🙂
Hey sista! Just returned from day one of my trade show – so sorry for the delayed comment this incredible update. You have an A+ plan and agree the short-term sacrafices are well worth it. You have incredible strength and resilence which inspires all involved. Best part is your sense of humor which is truly a gift!!! Love you so much. Enjoy little Gwen, Tom and Carrie!!! You so deserve serious R&R and lots of love!!! See you on the 11th. Lots of love, sp
Sounds like a plan, one I know you will come through with flying colors… Hey, if you need a “fat” donation…. I’ll be glad to send some! 😉 Seriously. I believe your on the final end of this stupid cancer bout and your coming through it victorious. Of course we would expect nothing less then that with you! (super woman image from the board pops into my mind) yep. that’s you!
You could not of picked a better day for surgery. July 11th is one of the most lucky days of my life! Did you know that 7-11 also gives out free Slurpee’s that day? Enjoy your visit with your sweet little grandbaby and her wonderful parents.
